Midiumi Jiyugaoka store sells books.
There are many different kinds of books in the store, and today I would like to introduce one of them.
"Itami Juzo's Kitchen"
Are you familiar with Juzo Itami? He is best known as a film director, but he also worked in a variety of fields, including as an actor, essayist, and illustrator, and became a film director as a culmination of his various creative methods.
This book explores how Itami enjoys eating and cooking through essays about food.
If I just briefly write about this, it might not interest you, so I'll add some more information.
Itami is also famous as a gourmet, and has written many essays about food.
Food-related scenes are depicted in many of his films, and the scenes are portrayed with great care and attention to detail, clearly conveying Itami's aesthetic sense to the viewer.
One of his most famous works is "Tanpopo." The film tells the story of reviving a failing ramen shop, but it's also full of food-related subplots and trivia. It's a kind of over-the-top entertainment piece.
Perhaps he has delved too deeply into food, as he has also released a CD titled "This is Itami Juzo. Let's all eat spaghetti while listening to canzone." I have never heard it, but it is said to be a condensed version of the essence of Itami Juzo, with Itami speaking wittily about the correct understanding and interpretation of Western culture, alternating with his canzone singing to enlighten listeners. Released in 1971, it seems like a CD with such bold content would be difficult to release in this day and age.
I've gone a little off topic, but this book conveys the charm and depth of the person Itami Juzo through food.
And I'm sure Itami's dedication to food has brought him rich experiences.
This book is sure to give you tips to add variety to your meals and dining table.
