adidas / STAN SMITH

It's been a while since I last introduced a sneaker. Today I'm introducing the Adidas Stan Smith.

There's something special about simple, pure white sneakers. I think they can be coordinated with any style.

That's why I'm sure you all have at least one pair.

Midiumi has long stocked the SPRING COURT/G2 as a classic white sneaker, but this is the first time we are offering a new white sneaker.

The model name comes from the name of American tennis player Stan Smith (Stanley Roger Smith).

The portrait on the shoe tongue is of the artist himself.

The minimalist design creates a clean, minimalist look. This is why the Stan Smith is known as a timeless classic, a versatile shoe that can be worn with any style.

By the way, it also holds the Guinness World Record for being the "world's best-selling sneaker."

This minimalist design actually came about through an unexpected process.

Stan Smith is an Adidas sneaker. When you think of Adidas, the first thing that comes to mind is the three-leaf "Trefoil logo" and the "three stripes."

The Trefoil logo is on the heel, but the iconic three stripes are missing.

That may seem like all there is to it, but when the brand was first launched in 1971, the lack of the three stripes, which are the brand's signature, was apparently quite shocking.

So why did the design not feature three stripes?

Stan Smiths were tennis shoes. At the time, tennis had stricter uniform rules than other sports, and shoes had to be plain white leather. Therefore, the three stripes were not included in the design.

(By the way, Midi Umi's classic sneaker, the SPRING COURT/G2, also has its roots in tennis shoes.)

However, Adidas did not give up on the design, and by arranging the ventilation holes and perforations necessary for functional breathability in three straight rows, they were able to express the three stripes and achieve both a functional design.

When you think of Stan Smiths, the heel colors are usually green or navy, but this time I chose gray.

Both the heel and tongue are gray, making it a color scheme that is easy to coordinate with other items.

It's hard to notice, but the sole is a soft cream color that looks slightly tanned.

The sophisticated white and grey look is complemented by the vintage-style sole, adding just the right amount of casual flair.

With its exquisite color balance and minimalist design, this is sure to be a versatile shoe that can be incorporated into any outfit.

Aside from the design, there is another reason why I chose Stance Smith this time.

It's the material it uses.

There are many different types of Stan Smiths, but the model I chose this time uses Primegreen, a 50% recycled material, for the upper.

Primegreen is a polyester material that does not contain any newly produced virgin polyester in factories.

Adidas was also one of the first brands in the sneaker industry to take on the SDGs and sustainability.

There are also Stan Smith models made with genuine leather, and of course, genuine leather has its own merits.

However, synthetic leather has its own merits.

Simply speaking in terms of appearance, it is a highly refined synthetic leather with a fine grain on the surface, giving it the appearance of genuine leather.

Another advantage is that they are easy to care for. They are stain-resistant and water-resistant, so you can wear them on rainy days. If the upper gets dirty, you can just wash the affected areas with water.

Styling tends to be heavy in the coming season, but by keeping your feet light, you can add a sense of ease to your outfit.

This has been a long post, but I think that once you have them, you will naturally find yourself wearing them often.
