"Onibegie" fabric, used for the first time this season

"Oni" refers to onion. This specially modified synthetic fiber is based on ingredients extracted from onion skins and is blended with natural ingredients from various plants.

(All onions used are domestically produced.)

Generally, synthetic fabrics do not readily accept dyes from natural materials, and the color fades quickly after washing.

However, Oni-vege uses a unique processing method on synthetic fibers and uses onions, which are one of the most easily dyed natural materials, making the color more likely to stick.

The colors vary widely, and include not only the natural yellow and brown of onion skins, but also green created by mixing olive pomace and leaves, or purple created by mixing grape pomace, and the variety of dyes expands depending on the natural materials combined.

Oni-veggie has three characteristics.

1. Low UV reflection

Fabric dyed with Oni-vege has the advantage of reflecting less ultraviolet light than fabric dyed with chemical dyes.

The polyphenol "quercetin" contained in onion skins has the property of absorbing ultraviolet rays and reducing their reflection, which in turn reduces the amount of UV rays that enter the eyes.

2. Environmentally friendly

Oni-vege uses natural ingredients such as onion skins, grape and olive pomace, and rice husks.

These materials are by-products of the food manufacturing process and would normally be thrown away. Instead of discarding them, Oni-Vege breathes new life into them as dye materials.

In this way, adding value to items that would otherwise be discarded and turning them into new products is called "upcycling," and it is gaining attention from the perspective of the SDGs.

3. Natural color

One of the charms of Oni-Vege is the natural colors that can only be achieved with natural materials. There are many different pigments in natural dyes, so different colors can be produced each time the fabric is dyed.

This is completely different from chemical dyes, which can be mass-produced to produce the same uniform color.

Onibegie is an eco-friendly material made by dyeing synthetic fibers using natural ingredients.

By reusing what we throw away, we reduce waste and lighten the burden on the environment.

The natural texture derived from plants has a charm that cannot be achieved with chemical dyes.

It's a rich natural color born from discarded materials.

For the 24 S/S season, Midiumi is using Oni-Vege in four styles.
